stop, drop, rock ‘n roll: “radio ga ga”

March 27, 2009

the week from hell, literally, is thankfully at its end. monday was awesome, but come tuesday some son a bitch punk gained entry to my paypal/bank account and attempted to walk away with thousands of dollars. thank you again to pam at paypal for your amazing service; God bless you, sweetheart. to the shitty folks at key bank, fuck you, i’ve taken my money elsewhere.

shake it off, cougar, shake it off … 😉

let’s lighten the mental load and talk about some good stuff. let’s talk music! let’s talk queen! let’s talk freddie mercury (aka farrokh bulsara)! God reached down and decided to make this man the greatest musical showman of all time. in the vid below, freddie’s got the audience in the palm of his hands; still does 24 years later after that amazing set. there is no comparison to freddie, so don’t come at with me “so and so was amazing.” yes, yes, i’m sure so and so was amazing, but that amazing pales in comparison to freddie. the voice, the flamboyance, the life. never met the man, but desperately wanted to before he passed in 1991.

also, let’s not forget roger taylor’s lovely and superb lyrics for radio ga ga (below). great song, drummer boy!

ladies and gentlemen, i give you queen:

radio ga ga
by roger taylor, copyright 1984

I’d sit alone and watch your light
My only friend through teenage nights
And everything I had to know
I heard it on my radio
Radio.

You gave them all those old time stars
Through wars of worlds – invaded by Mars
You made ’em laugh – you made ’em cry
You made us feel like we could fly.

So don’t become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don’t know or just don’t care
And just complain when you’re not there
You had your time, you had the power
You’ve yet to have your finest hour
Radio.

All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio what’s new?
Radio, someone still loves you!

We watch the shows – we watch the stars
On videos for hours and hours
We hardly need to use our ears
How music changes through the years.

Let’s hope you never leave old friend
Like all good things on you we depend
So stick around cos we might miss you
When we grow tired of all this visual
You had your time, you had the power
You’ve yet to have your finest hour
Radio – Radio.

All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio what’s new?
Radio, someone still loves you!
